To tell you that the synthesizers which had started to creep into music during the 70’s would burst into the mainstream in the 80’s would be an understatement and old news. But to remind you that the pioneering act Yazoo scored big with a debut album and shook up the typically “cold” field of synth-pop with Alison Moyet’s soulful vocals? Now that’s real Nightfly material right there. This group’s debut album showcases the heavily experimental nature of synthesizer-only music in the early 80’s, especially with the legendary Fairchild at their disposal. All that was left to do was hit record.
