The late 70’s was a disastrous time for heavy metal. Black Sabbath was becoming less and less popular, with their bloated rock epics unfit for radio play. Meanwhile, bands with and increasing focus on pop sensibilities and mastery in the studio ruled the airwaves. Fleetwood Mac anyone? Yet this culmination of factors didn’t stop the powerhouse of Van Halen, with outrageous frontman David Lee Roth, supported by the brothers Van Halen. Alex, the drummer with a passion, and Edward, the revolutionary guitarist who would completely shatter the guitar and rock scene of the late 70’s and entire 80’s. Along with bassist Michael Anthony, Van Halen would go down in history as one of the greatest rock bands ever.
