Social unrest and dissension within a community or country seems to be a pretty constant burden, though issues and ideals change through the years. Marvin Gaye, the Motown darling of lovable soul music, changed his tune in order to create this masterpiece of a concept album. On it, he mourns the issues of the time, including war, racism, drug abuse, orphaned children, and a loss of love throughout society as a whole. Yet the dulcet tones he employs gives hope to you; maybe if a beauty such as the one he showcases through his own talents can exist, then the world might not be so dark as we’ve made it out to be after all.
